Local and Statewide Cycling Events and Races

The NC Department of Transportation's Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Division is a clearing house of information on Bike and Ped related events in North Carolina. To keep track of events throughout the entire state is an ambitious task. You may want to confirm the dates of any particular event with the agency or organization hosting it.

ROAD

For the local roadie scene, the Tarwheels do the best job keeping up with ride-worthy events. On their events page, they list everything from weekly pick-up rides to long-distance randonneuring and local crits.
If you're not sure what randonneuring is, the North Carolina Bike Club explains it all. NCBikeClub.org is also a good place to check for local and statewide road cycling events.

MOUNTAIN

Trianglemtb.com hosts a calendar of local mountain biking events. This is probably the best place to keep track of local mountain bike races. From 24-hour endurance races, to downhill events, to short course cross-country races -- if it's of interest to any of trianglemtb.com's 500+ users, it's probably on the calendar.

CYCLOCROSS

A British-invasion sport that recently has started catching on in the States, cyclocross is strong in North Carolina. When their website returns to the virtual world, NCCyclocross.net is your best bet for finding out about local 'cross events.

IN DURHAM

October 30th, 2004 saw the first Halloween Hundred. More than 180 cyclists showed up for three different events: the fully supported 100k road ride, a fully supported 50k road ride, and a family ride down the American Tobacco Trail.

Capitol Broadcasting, owner of the American Tobacco District, and Habitat for Humanity of Durham teamed up to host the 100k ride.

The organizers plan to make this a regular cycling event in Durham, so mark your calendars for October 29th, 2005.

The last Friday of every month is the Durham Bicyclist Breakfast. Unless we post otherwise, Bikers' Breakfasts meet from 7:30-9:00am at the Mad Hatter's Cafe and Bake Shop, at 1802 W. Main Street in Durham.

It's a casual, drop-in event. Stop by for a full breakfast or just your morning caffeine before work.
