Interactive Google maps, cut-sheets, and other downloadable and printable maps of Durham County trails and open space.
When DOST Commissioners station information booths at Durham community events such as Earth Day, CenterFest, and the Festival for the Eno, the single most common question is, "Can I get a map of that trail?"
With this website, now you can download and print as many maps as you'd like. But we've done you one better.
On this page, we have assembled some of the most popular and commonly-used maps (listed alphabetically) of trails and open spaces across Durham County. Durham is blessed with many organizations and foundations that share DOST's passion for creating outdoor recreation opportunities for all of our residents (review a list of these groups, [here]), and have published a wide range of maps. So bookmark this page. Print out a map before you head out for a ride or hike!
Additionally, the Durham Open Space and Trails Commission has identified six future trails and trail extensions which we believe should be given highest priority by the Durham City Council. We are lobbying to have these important linkages to the existing trail framework developed, for they will benefit a large portion of the population. Benefits range from enhancing cultural and community identity to improved public health to generating economic value and activity on properties located near trail amenities.
Cut-sheets of these six priority future trails are listed below. Funding for designing two of the trail extensions (the Pearsontown and West Ellerbe Creek) has been included within the 2008-2009 Durham City Budget. Please read the cut-sheets and contact your representatives if you believe the trails should come to fruition.
If you know of another local map you'd like to see on this list or if you've spotted a dead link, drop us a line: DOST contacts.
